Assignment 3: Change - photo essay
Theme:
We live in a country where only thing which is constant is change.
Photo essay: Create 8 to 12 pictures essay on above theme. Select appropriate point of view which addresses the theme. eg.
- Economic changes and human condition
- Age, relations and rat race
- Geography and time
- Cultural invasion - unified world etc. etc.
What is photo essay (From Wikipedia)
A photo essay is a set or series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke a series of emotions in the viewer. Photo essays range from purely photographic works to photographs with captions or small notes to full text essays with a few or many accompanying photographs. Photo essays can be sequential in nature, intended to be viewed in a particular order, or they may consist of non-ordered photographs which may be viewed all at once or in an order chosen by the viewer. All photo essays are collections of photographs, but not all collections of photographs are photo essays. Photo essays often address a certain issue or attempt to capture the character of places and events. People who have undertaken photo essays include Bruce Davidson, W. Eugene Smith and Walker Evans.
Important:
- To be safe explore at least two point of views and develop one for essay.
- Don't be afraid to change your topic mid way.
- Keep shooting. It takes 100 photos to get one acceptable image.
- Try to capture what would other wise go unseen.
Objective
Objective is to develop control over image creation process. To explore different styles. Develop observation skill (photographer eye)
Note: Don't forget to previsualise. Just keep shooting and keep notes (MOST IMPORTANT) of your picture capture decision.
Presentation: Size and format - at your discretion. You may choose appropriate size based on your story and presentation style. Preferably between 5R to 8R/S8R.
What i would like to see in your prints: Contrast (clean whites and colours), depth (should create an illusion of 3d space), presence (should draw viewer into picture space). Attempt at developing personal style.

- A good quality camera with manual control
- Image processing software (Adobe Bridge & Photoshop)
- Good quality photo print service provider
